Joy Of Dawn

Each new day shows His grace, love, and mercy

Hair is Her Glory

But if a woman have long hair,
it is a glory to her:
for [her] hair is given her for a covering.
1 Corinthians 11:15
Hair Donation

Hair Donation

A couple months before my graduation I decided that my hair was long enough to donate some. I decided to donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Their hair limit is eight  inches so I decided I would cut sixteen. It wasn’t that much more then twelve inches for Locks of Love… was it?

It turned out that when my hair was cut that I had three different layers. The bottom layer was the sixteen and the top layer was eighteen. As for the middle layer it was somewhere in between those. I had thought about cutting it for a while and I thought I was ready for it but… it was a shock. I pulled my poor hair around and I nearly cried on the spot. I could feel a deep hurt in the pit of my stomach like someone had punched me. Although it was only from holding my tears back so Mom wouldn’t feel bad about the cut.

“Are you sure it is alright? You told me to cut it.” Mom said.

I knew she was right but that didn’t make me feel any better. My siblings tried to joke and make me smile but I just couldn’t. When I tried to smile I could feel the tears in my eyes. So I stayed somber and pretended like it was a serious thing I had just done.

As I wrote a note to Pantene, so they would let me know that they recieved the hair, Mom braided my hair. It felt good to let her play with it. I packaged up the hair with the note and went to my bedroom. There I had a good cry and when I was done I felt exhausted.

During the first night I couldn’t sleep. I kept feeling my hair brush across the middle of my back. The next morning I nearly cried again when I brushed it. I decided then and there that I would never grow my hair to cut it like that ever again. I felt like I had lost something and you know my memory didn’t work well, at all, for the next few weeks.

I think that I more clearly understand 1 Corinthians 11:15. Donating hair to those who have none may be a good cause yet it is a great sacrifice to those who give.
