Each new day shows His grace, love, and mercy

Around the House

Our newest farming updates:

Our farm is now officially One Acre Farm Goats! Personally I’d have left it at One Acre Farm. Then that would have made the initials OAF and some of us didn’t think that was cool.

We now have out first little pig! He makes the cutest little grunting noises! Loves to rut and dare himself to get as close to the electric fence as is possible without getting bit. All the other animals want a closer look but the fence… well, it hurts! It is funny to watch the chickens gather at the fence for a look. The turkeys peek in to see if he’ll talk to them. (They are very social.)

As I mentioned above, we have another set of white turkeys. Lets hope they don’t follow us across the highway again! They love the radio, when they were in the house. One morning they got out of the pen and were found roosting on the player! The Cd had stopped playing and they wanted a new one.

Broody hatched out her own little black chick. It is running around with the Blackie. Not sure if it is a hen or rooster yet.

Inspired by Broody, our other chickens decided to go on strike to have their own chicks. They have been sitting for months until last week. Goldy was the only other successful chicken, hatching out two chicks. Still tiny little things with nothing but wing feathers.

The rooster we had obtained, Sticks, is no longer with us. I named him Sticks when we had to defend ourselves from his spurs with sticks. He hated them…didn’t like my clipboard much either. He has some cute little chicks though!

We successfully hatched eight of eleven or fourteen eggs. At least three are roosters. Two hens and a rooster are now at a friend’s home in a nice new coop with three of our older birds.

There is new movable chicken/turkey pens being built.

An addition to Mom’s goat fortress is being added for hay or a new milk house. We haven’t come to an agreement on that yet.

Raised beds are slowly being added our garden. The pig is taking up our lower garden so we have added to our former areas. Beds are also helping some with last years plant blight. We may get some tomatoes this year!

Our goat Macy is no longer with us. However we do plan to let Chloe have kids this year!!

Raspberry plants are producing wonderfully!

I think that is it for farm updates. It has been a while since I posted about that!

Updates on projects:

Mom’s working on her quilt. We loved the blocks we have been making for wedding quilts! Thus inspired Mom is making a sampler quilt for her bed.

We joined 4-H this year. It is definitely a new experience. I’m not sure if it was what my sibling want to do next year but they are waiting out the year. Most certainly going to be more involved in the fair this year.

Practically cleaned the house from top to bottom this Summer. Even cleared out the garage. Now it is all down to maintenance. Finally able to have people over again!!

I have been enjoying the rain! The first day I stood in it. Today I watched it pour buckets as I ran around closing windows. Still it was wonderful to have.

Why is it that when anyone asks me what I’ve been doing my mind goes blank? Look at all that stuff.

The cat is sleeping on the couch and the dog is stretched out on the floor. Yeah it is getting late. Hope you had a great evening!

    • Heehee It all started with a school project. Chickens. Now we have everything on our one-acre that I think we can fit…but somehow there always seems to be something else!
